This set comes with both the pen, and the inkwell. These pieces were made at different times, using the hallmarks we can date the inkwell to 1819, and the pen to 1844. This is what you call a "married set." The hallmarks for the pen are: RP inside a shield which is the maker's mark, a flower representing the 925 sterling silver standard, the lion which is the city mark in this case is Birmingham best I can tell, the letter K witch is the date stamp of 1844. The hallmarks for the inkwell are: RP inside a shield which is the maker's mark, a lion representing the silver standard of 925 sterling, 3 flowers in a shield for the city mark of Chester, and the cursive letter K which is the date stamp of 1819. The inkwell has a closable top, and a glass insert where you will put your ink. You are buying both pieces. The pen measures 6 inches long. The inkwell measures 1.5 inches tall by 3.5 inches tall.
